The decomposition of carbon monoxide has been studied in a thermogravimetric flow system in the temperature range 280 to 400/sup 0/C. The reaction proceeded at a constant rate after a certain initial period. Both the pressure of carbon monoxide and of carbon dioxide influenced the reaction rate. This could be described by a rate expression derived from a sequence with the dissociation of adsorbed carbon monoxide as rate-determining step. Steam and hydrogen had a retarding reversible effect on the rate. Presence of alkali on the catalyst showed no effect on the reaction rate.
