The design and performance of a ..beta.. radiometric thickness gage are described. The ..beta.. source and detector are positioned on the same side of the sheet or ribbon material to be measured. After penetrating the material, the ..beta.. particles are directed back through the material by a magnetic field and measured by the radiation detector. (WHK)
