Supplied-air hood report
Technical Report

OSTI ID:7327707
Twenty air supplied hoods used for protection when personnel are exposed to high concentrations of dusts or vapors were tested to determine their efficiency. Human subjects wearing the hoods entered a test atmosphere containing a known concentration of dioctyl phthalate (DOP) aerosol. The air flow supplied to the hoods was adjusted as instructed by the manufacturer. The minimum required air flow was not obtained for all hoods tested. While the subject performed a set series of exercises designed to simulate working motions, the DOP contamination within the hood was measured. Sound pressure levels within the hood were also measured. Comparisons of contaminant levels with the hoods are offered. The degree of protection provided by these hoods is discussed and recommendations for safe use are offered.
