OSTI ID:7327148
The Shippingport Atomic Power Station has remained shutdown since February 4, 1974, for repair of the main unit turbine and for modifications for installation and operation of the third nuclear core, the Light Water Breeder Reactor (LWBR) core. The LWBR core barrel was installed in the PWR reactor vessel on June 26, 1976, after assembly, final cleaning and inspection. Modification effort has begun on the upgrading of the Shippingport Reactor Safety systems. This upgrading includes an Auxiliary Control Room, a containment isolation system and additions to the Safety Injection System. Repairs to the turbine generator are 90 percent complete. Maintenance work performed during the report period includes completion of the replacement of the 1A and 1D heat exchangers (steam generators).
