Polarization observation of compact extragalactic objects

Results of polarization observations of the cores of Seyfert galaxies, N-galaxies 3C 371 and 3C 390.3, and quasar 3C 345 made during the period 1971 to 1972 are presented. The variations of the polarization parameters for the last three objects are compared with the brightness variations. For 3C 371 a detailed correlation between the variations of the degree of polarization and brightness during August, 1972, is obtained. The degree of polarization of the variable component is equal to 14.4 percent. For 3C 390.3 all available data on polarization and brightness show that there is a correlation on a time scale of several years. The degree of polarization of the variable component (3.7 percent) and the general behavior of polarization strongly resemble those of NGC 4151. In respect of the optical properties 3C 390.3 seems to be closer to Seyfert galaxies rather than to 3C 371.
