We discuss the properties of a Brewster-angle birefringent filter (BBF) used inside a laser cavity for line narrowing and tuning of a high-power low-gain laser, in particular, a Nd : glass laser. The free-spectral range (FSR) and the dispersion function are found to be strongly angle dependent. This tuning method is found to be extremely simple, rugged, almost lossless, and to have a high finesse. (AIP)
