Current neutralization and amplification as electron beams are injected into plasma-filled waveguides

The problem of the injection of a relativistic electron beam into a cylindrical waveguide partially filled with an unmagnetized plasma is solved. Conditions for complete neutralization of the beam current are found. There can also be an amplification of the beam current due to the excitation by the beam of a low-frequency surface wave in a relatively low-density plasma. (AIP)
