What the likely future course of world oil prices will be, how serious are the risks of supply interruptions, and what is the likely effectiveness of measures which the United States might take on its own or with other consuming nations remain serious and controversial issues, whose answers are critical in evaluating policy options for the United States. This volume was compiled to provide background on these issues to members of the Senate's National Fuels and Energy Policy Study; it contains a chronology of major events in world petroleum markets, with a particular emphasis on the evolution of relations between OPEC and the United States, and a cross-section of recently published and significant or authoritative writings on these subjects.
