Prototype oil-shale leasing program. Volume VI. Public hearings held during the review process

This action would make available for private development up to six leases of public oil shale lands of not more than 5,120 acres each. Two tracts are located in each of the States of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. Oil shale development would produce both direct and indirect changes in the environment of the oil shale region in each of the three States where commercial quantities of oil shale resources exist. Impacts would include those on the land itself, on water resources and air quality, on fish and wildlife habitat, on grazing and agricultural activities, on recreation and aesthetic values, and on the existing social and economic patterns as well as others. The environmental impacts from both prototype development at a level of 250,000 barrels per day of shale oil and an industry producing a possible 1 million barrels per day by 1985 are assessed for their anticipated direct, indirect and cumulative effects.
