States of /sup 54/V and /sup 58/Mn. [23 MeV]

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
The /sup 54/Cr(t,/sup 3/He)/sup 54/V and /sup 58/Fe(t,/sup 3/He)/sup 58/Mn reactions have been used to study the masses and the low-lying excited states of /sup 54/V and /sup 58/Mn, by using 23 MeV tritons and a quadrupole--dipole--dipole--dipole spectrometer. The mass excess of /sup 54/V is -49 891(15) keV. At least 19 excited states of /sup 54/V with E/sub x/ < 2.5 MeV have been observed. The mass excess of /sup 58/Mn is -55 832(30) keV, with the assumption that an (unresolved) isomeric state exists at E/sub x/ = 30 +- 10 keV. ..beta.. decay evidence from other work, together with these results, suggests that these two states have J/sup ..pi../ = 3/sup +/ and 0/sup +/. Sixteen other states of /sup 58/Mn have been observed with E/sub x/ < 1.9 MeV.
