A study was made of changes in activity of phenylalanyl-tRNA synthetases in the reaction of linkage of /sup 14/C-phenylalanyl with tRNA, acceptor activity of the phenylalanyl-tRNA proper and substrate specificity of phenylalanyl tRNA synthetases in 2-day seedlings of cotton developing from seeds exposed to 6, 25 and 50 kR radiation. It was shown that phenylalanyl-tRNA and synthetase thereof, as well as isoacceptor tRNA differ in radiosensitivity. The activity of the enzyme is depressed to a greater extent than the corresponding tRNA. A study of substrate specificity of each fraction revealed that enzyme E/sub 1/ acylates isoacceptor phenylalnyl-tRNA I and II, and E/sub 2/, the isoacceptor III form.
