Chemical thermodynamic properties and internal rotation of methylpyridines. II. 3-methylpyridine
Thermodynamic properties of 3-methylpyridine were measured and the results were correlated by use of spectral and molecular-structure data to obtain values of the chemical thermodynamic properties in the ideal gas state (0 to 1500/sup 0/K). Internal rotation of the methyl group was found to be free or nearly so. Experimental studies provided the following information: values of heat capacity for the solid (12/sup 0/K to the triple point), liquid (triple point to 393/sup 0/K), and the vapor (404 to 500/sup 0/K); the triple point temperature; the heat of fusion; thermodynamic functions for the solid and liquid (0 to 390/sup 0/K); heat of vaporization (372 to 417/sup 0/K); parameters of the equation of state; vapor pressure (347 to 458/sup 0/K); and the standard heat of formation at 298.15/sup 0/K.
