Use of thin Mylar film in optical spark chambers

The possibility is demonstrated of using thin Mylar film as a window material through which sparks are photographed. Film 70-..mu.. thick was investigated, which was used in the spark chambers of the neutrino detector at the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics. The mean-square angular displacement of the object image due to local inhomogeneities of the film amounts to (6.3 +- 0.3) 10/sup -5/ rad for a linear dimension of approximately 2 mm of the sector on the Mylar film through which the light passes.
