Effect of pulsation damping on respirable dust collected by coal mine dust personal samplers
The Bureau of Mines has found that the irregularities of flow due to pulsation caused by the action of the pump in the coal mine dust personal samplers has a significant effect on the concentration of respirable dust collected. Two types of coal mine dust personal samplers were studied to determine the effect of decreasing the amplitude of the velocity fluctuations present in the airflow on the performance of the cyclones used in the samplers. More dust is collected on the filter that follows the cyclone when pulsation free flow is used. Velocity fluctuations were reduced by means of a pulsation damper, and the efficiency needed to eliminate the fluctuations was about 85 percent. (Author) (GRA)
