Soft vs hard energy paths: 10 critical essays on Amory Lovins' Energy Strategy: the Road Not Taken

Book ·
OSTI ID:7301555
Ten authors present critical reviews of A. B. Lovins' article, Energy Strategy: The Road Not Taken (EAPA 3:566). In his article, Mr. Lovins discussed two paths that the U.S. might follow over the next 50 years. The first path resembles present Federal policy and is essentially an extrapolation of the recent past. The second path combines a prompt and serious commitment to efficient use of energy, rapid development of renewable energy sources matched in scale and in energy quality to end-use needs, and special transitional fossil-fuel technologies. The ten critiques presented here are: Misdirection in Energy Strategy, Bruce Adkins; The Soft Path, the Yellow Brick Road, and Pie in the Sky, Peter J. Brennan; A Solar View of the Soft Path, Sheldon H. Butt; Energy Strategy--A Time for Realism, Dr. Ian A. Forbes; Comments on Article by Amory B. Lovins, Daniel W. Kane; A Critique of Amory Lovins' Article, Dr. Ralph Lapp; ''Soft'' Energy Paths--Reality and Illusion, Dr. Aden and Marjorie Meinel; The Road Not Taken--and Wisely So: A Path Too Soft to Travel, Drs. George W. Pickering and Margaret N. Maxey; The Plain Man's Guide to Amory Lovins, J.A.L. Robertson; and A Critical Review of ''Energy Strategy: The Road Not Taken'' by Dr. Arnold E. Sofer. (MCW)
