Estimation of the double-helicity-flip deuteron structure function

The gluonic hadron structure function {Delta}({ital x},{ital Q}{sup 2}), identified by Jaffe and Manohar, is estimated for the deuteron. We assume a model for the deuteron which contains a {Delta}-{Delta} isobar component, and in which the virtual photon interacts with each isobar independently. Although the predicted transverse asymmetry cross section is small, the results could be tested in view of a proposed experiment to measure {Delta}({ital x},{ital Q}{sup 2}).
