Exposure of hothouse cucumber seeds to gamma radiation as a means of increasing productivity

Journal Article · · Radiobiology (USSR) (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

Cucumber seeds were exposed to gamma radiation 2 weeks before sowing. The rate of growth of primary roots and rate of appearance of flower buds were used as criteria for evaluation of the effects of radiation on the plants. The processes of differentiation of seedlings began sooner and were faster in seedlings from irradiated seeds and this led to earlier appearance of flower nodes. As a result of accelerated growth and development of plants, there was an increased harvest of young cucumbers. (HLW)
