Secondary oil recovery by waterflooding with extracted petroleum acids
Patent
·
OSTI ID:7299655
An aqueous surfactant-polymer slug containing neutralized organic acids extracted from a petroleum oil (acid number 0.317), 0.5 to 2.0 percent monovalent salts, a pH of 11.5 to 13.0, oil, water, and Kelzan (polysaccharide B-1459) was used for secondary oil recovery. Unconsolidated Berea sand packs were saturated with brine, flooded with oil (acid number 0.317), and treated with the surfactant-polymer slug recovering 88 percent OOIP. Straight alkaline flooding only produced 74 percent OOIP. A weak brine preflush is required if the connate water contains more than 50 ppm divalent cations or much more than 2.0 percent monovalent salts.
