Water-soluble compositions resistant to shear degradation of the polymer thereof

An aqueous polymeric solution containing a solid, water-soluble, high molecular weight synthetic polymer and a nonionic, water-soluble liquid surfactant does not undergo shear degradation when forcibly displaced. Polymers used in this application are polyethylene oxide, polyacrylamide, or polysaccharide. The surfactant, oxyalkylated adducts of hydrophobic polyols, appears to prevent shear degradation of the polymer and to disperse the polymer in aqueous solvents.
