A thickened waterflood containing a surfactant (Petronate L) and biopolymer thickening agents (Polytetran, a sulfoalkylated poly (glucosylglucan) and/or a sulfoalkylated polysaccharide B-1459) was proposed for enhanced oil recovery. The flood is effective over a fairly wide range of temperatures, pH values, salinities. The polymers do not form precipitates with divalent ions and have little tendency to adsorb onto the negatively charged reservoir adsorption sites.
