Standard test method for hydrogen sulfide in natural gas (methylene blue method)

Journal Article · · Annu. Book ASTM Stand.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7296772
This method covers the determination of hydrogen sulfide in natural gas containing not more than 1.0 grain of hydrogen sulfide/100 ft/sup 3/ (23 mg/m/sup 3/). A measured sample of the gas is bubbled through zinc acetate solution. N,N-dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine in acid solution and ferric chloride are added to the zinc acetate solution and react with zinc sulfide to form the dye methylene blue. The methylene blue is determined by measurement of optical absorbance of the solution at a specified wavelength or wavelength range.
