Economic methodology for solar-assisted industrial process heat systems: the effect of government incentives

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7296310

Standard life-cycle costing techniques are used to establish an economic methodology and determine the economic attractiveness of solar thermal systems for industrial process heat and the effect of government-sponsored economic incentives. One particularly attractive incentive is to reward those who save fossil fuel as a result of installing a solar thermal system with an income tax rebate--a ''fuel-savings incentive''. Another appealing incentive is to provide low-interest, government-backed loans for the construction of these systems. It is concluded that such incentives will be needed to open a mass industrial market for solar thermal systems in the near future.
