Potential land subsidence at geothermal development sites

Journal Article · · Geotherm. Energy Mag.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7296220
Potential severities of five physical subsidence processes for magma, hot rock, steam, hot water, and geopressured systems are summarized. Compaction is thought to be the most significant, possibly followed by fracture closing. Site geology, fluid, reservoir, and material characteristics are identified as indicators of subsidence potential. Two methods of subsidence prediction, analogy and analysis, are discussed. (JGB)
