Evidence for I[sup G]J[sup PC]=0[sup +]0[sup ++] resonance at 1. 39 GeV/c[sup 2] and confutation of the [zeta](1480) in a reanalysis of the [bar p]n[yields]2[pi][sup +]3[pi][sup [minus]] annihilation at rest

The reanalysis of 1496 [bar p]n[yields]2[pi][sup +]3[pi][sup [minus]] annihilations at rest of the Rome-Syracuse Collaboration has found that the reaction was dominated by a 4[pi] resonance with I[sup G]J[sup PC]=0[sup +]0[sup ++] and predominant decay [sigma][sigma]. This disproves the belief that the enhancement seen in this reaction is the 2[pi][sup +]2[pi][sup [minus]] decay of the f[sub 2](1565). The resonance also decays into [rho][rho], and the [rho][sup 0][rho][sup 0] - [sigma][sigma] interference is constructive at low masses in the 2[pi][sup +], 2[pi][sup [minus]] and 3[pi][sup [minus]] distributions and at cos [theta]>0 in the 2[pi][sup +] and 2[pi][sup [minus]] angular distributions. This reproduces the behavior predicted by the Bose-Einstein correlation. 33 refs., 3 figs., 3 tabs.
