Northern Great Plains resources program. Water quality subgroup report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7295096
The report assesses the possible water quality impacts of coal and related energy development upon the following water systems, the Yellowstone, the Bighorn River Basin, the Tongue River Basin, the Powder River Basin, the Cheyenne River Basin, the Belle Fourche River Basin, the Mainstem of the Missouri in North Dakota, the Little Missouri River Basin, the Heart River Basin, the Knife River Basin, and the Cannonball River Basin. The study presents the present (1973-4) water quality of those streams most likely to be affected by such development. The research discusses needs for water use in coal development and water quality impacts most likely associated with development. It shows critical areas where new data should be collected to insure that any development proceeds with minimum adverse impacts in both the short and long term. Also, it discusses quality of waters discharged from energy developments. The paper addresses qualitative impacts on ground water. (GRA)
