Photolysis of NO/sub 2/ and collisional energy transfer in the reactions O + NO. -->. NO/sub 2/ and O + NO/sub 2/. -->. NO/sub 3/

Conference · · Int. J. Chem. Kinet.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7291306
The photolysis of nitrogen dioxide (4 to 5 torr) at 366 nm and the collisional energy transfer of 18 different inert gases involved in combination reactions of oxygen atoms with nitric oxide and NO/sub 2/ were studied. The role of nitric anhydride in the mechanism and corresponding time dependence of the quantum yield was also evaluated. The relative collision efficiencies of each inert gas are tabulated for each reaction and are evaluated in terms of the average energies transferred per collision. A theoretical analysis of the recombination rate constants is also presented.
