Chamber for the optical manipulation of microscopic particles
This patent describes improvement in a laser system for optically trapping and manipulating microscopic particles with the use of a particle control chamber. The improvement comprises: a manipulation chamber having a central section defining a plurality of inlet and outlet ports for introducing fluids and the particles within the chamber, a plurality of flow channels connecting the inlet and outlet ports, and a manipulation area optically accessible by the laser system; the manipulation area further including a first enlarged volume in selected first ones of the flow channels usable for introducing the particles, each the first volume being effective to contain a selected number of the particles and interconnection channels for selectively interconnecting the first enlarged volumes.
