The use of agricultural residues and other nonwood plant fibers for the production of pulps and papers is evaluated for the developed and developing nations. The fibers considered are agricultural residues such as sugar cane bagasse and cereal straw, natural plants such as bamboo and grasses, and nonwood crop fibers such as bast. From the evaluation it is concluded that these sources will play an increasingly important role in the world's paper and pulp industry, especially in the developing countries. (JSR)
