Public opinion and pollution: an interpretive survey
Book

OSTI ID:7287116
A survey of recent public opinion data relating to environmental concerns showed that concern over environmental degradation is relatively high and increasing. When compared to other issues environmental improvement ranks very high; only a healthy economy and the social issue rank higher. A majority of Americans believes environmental programs receive too little attention and financial support from the federal government; only 5% believes the opposite. Americans are willing to pay a considerable amount for a clean environment, but not through higher personal taxes. Rather, they appear to support raising the cost of production and consumption of polluting products.
