Potential of superconducting magnets in design engineering

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7286689
Superconducting magnets are considered for a wide variety of applications. They are reviewed from the standpoint of economics, size and weight reduction possibilities, and as auxiliary devices in systems already requiring a helium environment. The basic properties of superconductivity are reviewed and their application to devices other than coils are suggested. A brief technology of superconducting magnets is given together with a discussion of the important aspects of the cryogenic environment.
