A conduction heat flow calorimeter for use in measuring the thermal output of 100-Ah and 20-Ah sealed nickel/cadmium cells was designed and constructed. The heat flow calorimeter is composed essentially of a pressurized vessel, thermally isolated from its surroundings in all directions but one, a heat sink maintained at a constant temperature considerably lower than that of the calorimeter, and a copper conductor connecting the two.
