This book makes an inventory of the known oil fields of the world and attempts to arrive at a balanced picture of the actual and potential sources of oil supply. This book considers the major oil fields from among the more than 30,000 significant oil accumulations that have been discovered. Important facts about the geology, geography, and production history of the major oilfields are presented. The final chapter discusses primary, secondary, and tertiary recovery, reserves and ultimate resources, future oil requirements and supply, discovery of new oilfields, and new sources of petroleum (tar sands, shale oil, and oil from coal).
