Process for the secondary and tertiary recovery of petroleum
A process is claimed for the secondary and tertiary recovery of petroleum from subterranean formations penetrated by an injection well and a producing well, which comprises introducing into said reservoir through said injection well a displacing medium comprising water and from about 0.001 to about 1 percent by weight of a block polymer of the formula A-B-A wherein the A block represents from 10 to 100,000 mer units of a water-soluble monomer selected from the group consisting of 3-acrylamido-3-methyl butyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, 2-acrylamido-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid, dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride, methacryloyloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, methacryloyloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, methacryloyloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium methosulfate, and acrylamide and the B block represents from 10 to 5,000 mer units of N-vinyl pyrrolidone.
