Temperature profiles are determined for several ambient temperatures and operating rates. A methematical analysis is given of the thermal-resistance network to determine optimum cell geometry with respect to thermal properties. Data obtained are applied to the design of a 50-Ah nickel--cadmium cell. Experiments with 6-Ah cells are also reported, and values are given for the thermal resistances. The conductivities of 6- and 20-Ah cells are 0.019 and 0.0067 (cal/cm/sup 2/ s)/(C/cm) in a direction parallel with or perpendicular to the plane of the plates, respectively.
