Many state commissions are requiring utilities they regulate to undergo a management audit of utility operating performance and efficiency. Questionnaires were sent to the states on the subject and the results are summarized for all states. The purpose, nature, and advantages of a management audit are briefly described with specific excerpts from management audits of utilities in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Virginia.
