Automation of Canadian gas field cuts costs, increases gas production

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7278173
The design, operation, and performance of the computer system to monitor and control the flow rates of 47 natural gas wells in the Kaybob South gas field in central Alberta are described. The gas from these wells are rich in propane, butane, and condensate, as well as contaminants; therefore processing is required. The automated system regulates the flow rate from each well so as to insure the desired flow rate at the processing plant. Before installation of the system this had to be done manually. In addition to cutting costs and increasing gas production, the computer system has cut manpower requirements, improved safety, conserved fuel gas, and improved plant liquid recoveries. (JSR)
