Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7277395
This document reports on the evaluation of the National Environmental Specimen Bank Survey (EPA-600/1-76-006), a joint program funded by EPA, NSF/RANN, and NBS. This survey, performed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory for EPA, was an attempt to identify and obtain information from organizations and individuals presently collecting and storing environmental specimens to be utilized by EPA in establishing the National Environmental Specimen Bank. The evaluation of the sampling, storage and analytical methodology used by these collecting organizations was performed by personnel of the NBS Analytical Chemistry Division. It was revealed that virtually none of the currently existing collections are suitable for valid retrospective analysis.
