Superallowed Fermi. beta. decay: lifetimes of /sup 34/Cl, /sup 38/K/sub m/, /sup 42/Sc, /sup 46/V, and /sup 50/Mn

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
The half-lives of the Fermi superallowed ..beta.. transitions of /sup 34/Cl, /sup 38/K/sub m/, /sup 42/Sc, /sup 46/V, and /sup 50/Mn have been measured by multiscaling ..beta.. rays detected in a plastic scintillator. The activities were produced in the reactions /sup 32/S(t,n)/sup 34/Cl at E/subt/=3.0 MeV, /sup 35/Cl(..cap alpha..,n)/sup 38/K/sub m/ at E/sub alpha/=8.0 MeV, /sup 42/Ca(p,n)/sup 42/Sc at E/subp/=10 MeV, /sup 46/Ti(p,n)/sup 46/V at E/subp/=10 MeV, and /sup 50/Cr(p,n)/sup 50/Mn at E/subp/=10 MeV. Results for the half-lives (in msec) were as follows: /sup 34/Cl, 1525.2 +- 1.1; /sup 38/K/sub m/, 922.3 +- 1.1; /sup 42/Sc, 680.98 +- 0.62; /sup 46/V, 424.01 +- 0.47; and /sup 50/Mn, 282.72 +- 0.26. Comparisons are made with previous measurements; the systematics of the superallowed Fermi ..beta.. emitters are discussed. The value for the vector coupling constant g/sub beta//subV/subR/ including the ''inner'' radiative correction is deduced to be g/sub beta//subV/subR/= (1.41220 +- 0.00043) x 10/sup -49/ erg cm/sup 3/.
