Magnetic properties of Ba-Zn-system W-type hexagonal ferrite magnets

Journal Article · · IEEE Translation Journal on Magnetics in Japan (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers); (United States)
Ba-Zn system W-type hexagonal ferrite magnets were prepared by a new manufacturing method in which BaO was added after semisintering treatment, and without atmosphere control. This process was found to be very useful in stabilizing the W-type hexagonal structure. The optimum conditions for making magnets, and some properties of typical specimens, are as follows: chemical analysis Ba[sub 1.092]Zn[sub 1.725]-Fe[sub 0.410][sup 2+]Fe[sub 15.848][sup 3+]O[sub 27]; semisintering conditions 1,275 C [times] 1.0 hr in air; sintering conditions 1,225 C [times] 0.5 hr in air; magnetic and physical properties J[sub m] = 0.405 T, J[sub r] = 0.364 T, H[sub cJ] = 86.0 kA/m, H[sub cB] = 82.0 kA/m, (BH)[sub max] = 18.5 kJ/m[sup 3], T[sub c] = 330 C, H[sub A] = 987.0 kA/m, K[sub A]=1.87 [times] 10[sup 5]J/m[sup 3], and n[sub B] = 33.7[mu][sub B].
