Energy in Tennessee: the report of the Governor's Task Force on Energy

Book ·
OSTI ID:7265901
The Task Force decided to structure this report so that emphasis could be placed on the general difficulties of coping with energy problems while also covering each fuel important to Tennessee. It begins with a general overview of the background leading to formation of the Task Force. Those interested in the methodology used to develop the report will find a brief discussion in the Preface. The historical setting is followed by a summary of the report's findings and the recommendations for action made by the Task Force. Chapter 3 is a statistical summary which condenses Tennessee energy data into pertinent tables. Chapter 3 serves both as an inventory of energy supply and uses in Tennessee. It also places these data in a form which enables relationships to be quickly seen and simple analyses without a great deal of additional statistical manipulation. Chapter 4 discusses energy sources in a historical perspective that demonstrates some of the problem's complexity. A series of chapters follows Chapter 4 which examine each fuel and discusses the situation surrounding it in Tennessee and covers recommendations which would improve that fuel's situation in our state. Electricity is treated in a separate chapter as a fuel even though electrical energy production is dependent upon fossil or nuclear fuels. The report concludes with a series of sections on recommendations of the Task Force including those which would apply to the state agencies and could therefore be implemented immediately. (auth)
