Mosaic/photomontage: a new concept to help reclamation planning

Journal Article · · Coal Min. Process.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7261059
The ability to accurately and objectively portray the visual impact of a proposed mining operation has been a pipe dream of many of those who have the responsibility of making the complex and often controversial decisions surrounding such development. But now a new, computer-based system called MOSAIC/Photomontage is being developed which provides an accurate, low-cost look at the visual impact of not only mines, but many other types of potential developments as well. MOSAIC is aimed at helping find answers to mining reclamation and planning problems, and disseminating information and technology to those involved in reclamation fields. It can be used as a planning aid for such mining-related developments as: roads, railroad spurs, coal slurry pipelines, surface mines, and transmission lines.
