Production to start from subsea wellhead completion in Beryl field

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7261038

Production from a subsea-wellhead completion in the North Sea's Beryl field was to have begun in June 1976, marking the world's first commercial application of a new generation of seabed-production technology. The well(9/13-1) was being completed with a retrievable subsea production control assembly. It was designed specifically to simplify maintenance work on subsea installations in such hostile deepwater environments as the North Sea, allowing easy removal without divers. The well should begin producing from the ocean floor at an initial rate of about 4,000 b/d. It should then produce at an average of 6,000 b/d or more. The technology of the new subsea system was discussed.
