At signalized intersections, interactions exist between various design aspects of the geometric features and the signal controls. The purpose of this study was to develop design lengths of left-turn or right-turn lanes that are controlled by separate signal phases. The design criteria presented are applicable for those signalized intersections where special turning lanes are deemed to be warranted on one or more approaches.
