Certain causes of the shift of a track in a spark chamber

The magnitudes of the shifts of a track are measured as a function of the actuation frequency of a wide-gap spark chamber and on the time delay of the high-voltage pulse. With increasing frequency, the shift decreases; this can be explained by the accumulation of charges on the oxide layer of the aluminum electrode during the high-voltage discharge in the chamber.
