Multi-parameter characterization of deactivation in a flame-sprayed Raney nickel methanation catalyst

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7257692
The results of a preliminary characterization study of a flame-sprayed Raney nickel methanation catalyst under development by the Pittsburgh Energy Research Center are presented. A number of recently developed surface sensitive techniques, as well as conventional analyses, are applied to the definition of structural and compositional features of the catalyst and to the identification of deactivation processes. The roles of surface contamination, annealing and sintering of the nickel particles, and aluminum oxide barrier formation are discussed.
