Adjoint Monte Carlo calculations of the neutron induced silicon dose rate measured in the guidance section of a Sprint missile are presented. The Sprint in-missile measurements and a similar measurement inside a simple steel-styrofoam sample were performed. Forward and adjoint Monte Carlo calculations were performed of the time dependent dose rate in the steel-styrofoam sample giving a time dependent benchmark comparison of two calculations and an experiment. A complete description of the three dimensional complex Sprint missile radiation transport model is given. Adjoint Monte Carlo calculations of the Sprint in-missile measurements show that neutron induced doses are accurately calculated for all neutron energies except from 1 to .1 MeV where the contribution to the total dose is negligible. Thus the comparison of calculation and experiment demonstrates that neutron induced missile doses are accurately calculated. Further, there is evidence that neutron radiation response functions can be calculated with simpler geometry models which should reduce their cost in the future.
