An overview of Western Europe's nuclear power capability notes that the area has enjoyed good performance from its plants, which are now producing more electricity than any other source of energy. Despite signs of a more positive public attitude, however, there is still strong opposition to nuclear power. The emphasis is shifting, as in the US, to supporting services rather than new construction. The survey covers installations and experiences in France, West Germany, Belgium, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, and Austria.
