Polarization-modal construction of triplicity in the profile of pulsar 1604-00

Journal Article · · Astrophys. J.; (United States)
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1086/166005· OSTI ID:7251913
Pulsar 1604-00 exhibits a narrow triple profile which at 430 MHz is barely resolved into three components. In order to determine where this profile was merely a statistical fluke or whether it has more fundamental causes in the star's sequences of individual pulses, polarization mode separation of the individual pulse train was undertaken. An intriguing result was obtained: the primary- and the secondary-mode average profiles exhibit conal-double- and core-single-like forms, respectively. The significance of this finding is discussed. 18 references.
