The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is hereby promulgating regulations which require manufacturers of 1977 and later model year automobiles and light trucks to label each vehicle with fuel economy information. The regulations set forth the form and content of the labels and prescribe the manner in which vehicles will be selected and tested for the generation of fuel economy information. This rule making also contains requirements for dealers of these vehicles to maintain the labels on the vehicles and to have copies of a pamphlet, The Gas Mileage Guide, in their showrooms in which prospective purchasers will be able to find the fuel economies of the various models of these vehicles offered for sale in a given model year. This pamphlet will be prepared by EPA and the Federal Energy Administration (FEA) and distributed by FEA.
