The CPS/Madison Industries site is on the National Priorities List. CPS processes, treats, and stores organic chemicals and Madison Industries produces zinc compounds for fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, and food additives. The environmental contamination on-site consists of the following: methylene chloride, 1,1-dichloroethane, trans-1,2-dichloroethylene, 1,2-dichloroethane, trichloroethylene, benzene, chlorobenzene, toluene, cadmium, and lead in ground water. The site is considered to be of potential public health concern because of the risk to human health caused by the possibility of exposure to hazardous substances via contaminated ground water, surface water, sediment, and airborne particulate.
